We pride ourselves on being up to date with the newest lodges, best destinations and most unique experiences when designing our Tanzania safari packages. We are a true locally owned company, with the large majority of our employees having grown up in this incredibly beautiful country. We are constantly inspecting new properties and visiting new locations so that we can deliver the best possible experiences from our first-hand knowledge.
Our vehicles are fully serviced after every trip.We do not operate back-to-back safaris with the same vehicles. Distance isn't a problem - we have no limits on game drives for our guides, therefore they can travel as far as needed to give the clients the best chance of game-viewing (without the crowds). We care about the environment - we aim to minimize our environmental impact in all areas of our work. We supply each client with a stainless-steel refillable water bottle, rather than single use plastic bottles. We are proud to provide unlimited game drive safaris.
Our guides have been chosen for their knowledge, experience, professionalism, attention to detail, sense of humor and communication skills. They are fluent english speakers whose mission is to ensure you have the best holiday possible. We work hard to keep our staff happy, with great working conditions. They love to provide our clients with the best possible service. If you are happy with your guides, it is customary to tip them at the end of your journey. This is your way of showing your appreciation as well as our custom here in Tanzania. Tipping adds to the income of every guide and lets them know how much you appreciate their skills and services.
My Name is Musa Abdul Massawe, I am the founder, owner and director of Native Son Expeditions. Tanzanian born, I was raised on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. I have always been passionate about wildlife conservation and tourism in my home country, which is why I began working with clients as a guide on Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as a safari guide.
My work as a guide began after completing my studies at The College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka. That is where I discovered my love of working with tourists and showing them the natural beauty of my country. From there I extended my career and became a safari guide, sharing my love, and knowledge, of animals.
I became a sought after full-route guide in 2019. Two yers later I launched my own company, Native Son Expeditions. Since then I have spent my time traveling and further studying every detail of Tanzania and its nature and ecosystems. My aim is to design adventure trips that provide unique experiences–trips of a lifetime. My tours are tailored to everybody looking for adventure and breathtaking safaris.

VerifiedPosted on DayTrip57745819994Adventure of a lifetime on safari with Native Son Expeditions My husband and I had the most magnificent adventure of our lives on a five day safari in Tanzania. Our safari guide, Musa Massawe, who grew up in the local community, organized an amazing itinerary for us. He listened carefully to our priorities and took care of all arrangements for us, including airport pick up/drop off, food, and all accommodations. Our lodging was top-notch with outstanding service and excellent food. Our five-day journey took us through four incredible National Parks: Tarangire, Serengeti (we actually stayed in the park for two nights), Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara. Each park was unique and breathtakingly beautiful. We saw far more animals than I had imagined possible (lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, buffalos, ostriches, a rare black rhino, hyenas, mongoose, baboons, monkeys, gazelle, antelope, wildebeest, warthogs and a wide variety of birds). We were very impressed by our safari guide, Musa, who is an articulate, polite, warm-hearted, and extremely knowledgeable young man. He provided us with interesting and detailed information about all of the animals, the vegetation, the local culture and Tanzanian customs. He taught us a bit of Swahili and was quick to laugh at my husband's jokes! Our safari driver, Moses, is equally professional and personable. He is a very skilled driver with a talent for getting us up close to all the animal action. Both Musa and Moses clearly have a profound sense of respect and awe for the beauty and wonders of their native land. Also, their commitment to our safety and well-being was paramount. We highly recommend Native Son Expeditions. As they say in Swahili, "Hakuna matata". If you go on safari with Musa (if you like, he can also take you to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro), you'll have "no worries". Musa will take care of everything and you will have the adventure of a lifetime.VerifiedPosted on Paul DAmazing trek Musa and his colleagues were really a joy to be with and very flexible and responsive. I highly recommend them. It was an amazing experience.VerifiedPosted on Rosemary OA wonderful trip to the top. Exploring this amazing part of the world with Musa, who grew up in the area and is a graduate of the African Wildlife College near Moshi was a wonderful experience. I have admired the beauty of Kilimanjaro from afar but spending time actually making my way up the trail and finally getting to the top as the sun rose was beyond my wildest expecations. Everything was so well organized that all I had to do was get up in the morning and wonder what the day would bring. Musa is an excelent guide and a delightful young man who made sure that my every need was met and provided wonderful information as we went along. Thank you MusaVerifiedPosted on Jocelyn COutstanding!! Just got home from my safari with Native Son Expedition and already wishing I could go back! Our tour guide Musa really made the whole trip amazing for my family and I. Highly recommend!VerifiedPosted on Joan WFantastic safari trip for our family of 6! Musa is an incredible host. He planned a wonderful 3-day safari adventure for me and my family (a total of 6 of us ranging from 15-54). Musa and our driver, Elly, took us to three different areas with animals galore in all locations and had incredible information about the animals, flowers and trees, and history of the communities and tribes. Musa also arranged beautiful accommodations for us each night and added on interesting tours of a tribal village and a hike to the tallest waterfall in the Kilimanjaro region. I would highly recommend Native Son Expeditions for a safari and other adventures in Tanzania, such as a hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro.VerifiedPosted on kaleyPositive, eye opening, informative, and welcoming trip. Have told everyone I know to consider making the trip out. The BEST experience! Our guides, Musa and Eli, were amazing! So positive, informative, and welcoming. I have recommended this trip to everyone I know.VerifiedPosted on Christian SAmazing Safari and Hiking, Experienced and thoughtful guides Our trip consisted of 4 days on Safari and 1 day hiking Kilimanjaro Safari: Musa and his teamcreated a once in a lifetime vacation for my family. They recommended 4 excellent lodges and luxury camps. Our favorite was Lake Masek Tented lodge. The guides experience and knowledge of wildlife behavior, migratory patterns and park history were unmatched. In 4 days we saw 2 cheetahs, 1 leopard, 11 lions, over 100 giraffes and elephants, and perhaps thousands of zebras of wildebeests. Musa and his team were warm and welcoming and treated us like family. Mt. Kilimanjaro:We did a day hike to Mandura hut via the Manguru route. Musa is an experienced guide and ensured that we packed the appropriate gear for all weather conditions. He provided us with 3L of water and a boxed lunch, and handled all financial transactions. It did rain for the last hour of our ascent. I recommend wearing pants, longsleeve shirt, waterproof boots and to bring a rain jacket. The hike was moderate difficulty with 10km distance, 4 hours up and 2.5 hours down. I highly recommend Musa and Native Son Expeditions for both safari and hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro. We plan to come back to summit Mt. Kili with him next year.VerifiedPosted on V333Fabulous safari combined with Mt. Kili This trip is one of the best trips of my life- truly unforgettable. Musa and his team were professional, accommodating, and well-organized. Musa is extremely knowledgeable about all of the wildlife and I enjoyed his commentary. I appreciated that he was very accommodating with our schedules and interests. Our safari was 4 nights/ 5 days. We timed it perfectly with the wildebeest migration to the crater. We were up close to herds of elephants passing directly in front of our vehicle. We got very close to sleeping lions, saw tons of graceful giraffes, hundreds of zebras and wildebeest, pink flamingos, hyenas, a hippo, rhino, baboons, several different types of monkeys, leopards, cheetahs, and more. Our last two days we stayed in a gorgeous tented lodge in Ndutu. It was a paradise. I woke up in the middle of the night to find a herd of zebras right off our front porch. Musa is the expert when it comes to safaris and we look forward to our next trip with him.We had one day left and Musa took us for a 10 mile hike to Mandara Hut on Mt. Kilimanjaro. What a beautiful experience that was with waterfalls, lush foliage, and the monkeys we spotted. We hope to return to summit Mt. Kili with Musa as this is also his area of expertise.VerifiedPosted on Trek817611Best of my 5 safaris! Personalized tour with Musa brought us to an unprecedented abundance of animals!! Lions, giraffes, elephants, cheetah, hundred of baboons, the wildebeest and zebra migration and much more! Safaris cumstomized to interests and budget. Terrific!VerifiedPosted on I.M.Amazing Safari Experience In February, I did a Safari through Serengeti and Ngorongoro with family/friends. Musa was our guide on that trip and he was amazingly attentive, very caring about our needs and astonishingly well informed about all the flora and fauna surrounding us. In addition to that, we had nice chats and fun during dinner in the evenings 🙂 I can totally recommend to travel with this company and would do it again! Thanks!
